Enrollment Policy

ANSER Charter School is a public charter school open to any student regardless of race, color, national or ethnic origin, religion, gender, social or economic status, and/or special needs. ANSER accepts kindergarten through 8th grade students, with the exception of children who have been expelled/suspended from their previous school or have other pending disciplinary issues. There are no academic enrollment requirements. ANSER reserves the right to decline enrollment to students if false or misleading information is included on the enrollment application form.

Enrollment preference is given to: (1) Current students; (2) Children of school founders and children of full-time staff; (3) Siblings of current students; and (4) Students living within the Boise School District boundaries. Students from outside the Boise School District may only be admitted after all Boise School District students on the waiting list have been given an opportunity to enroll.

State law requires that an equitable selection process, such as a lottery, be held to determine who will be enrolled if more students apply than there are openings at any grade level. ANSER holds an annual lottery on the third Thursday in February at 1:00 PM to determine placement on the waiting lists for all grade levels.  This list will be in effect immediately after the lottery is held.

Process of Enrollment

All potential students wishing to enroll at ANSER Charter School must complete an enrollment application form which can be obtained on the ANSER website (www.ansercharterschool.org). The forms can be returned in person, by mail, or via fax (208-426-9863).   To be eligible for the annual lottery, the form must be submitted after January 1st and received at least 24 hours prior to the lottery.

Only one enrollment application form may be completed for each child. Parents of potential kindergarten students may not submit an enrollment form for their child until the January prior to when their child is eligible to be enrolled in Kindergarten. The names of students who apply after the due date will be placed at the bottom of the applicable waiting list in the order the application was received.

Continued Enrollment
Students currently enrolled at ANSER automatically qualify for readmission for the next academic year. Parents/guardians will be required to complete and return a recommitment form (indicating their intent to continue their child’s enrollment at ANSER) by the 2nd Friday in February of each year. Any student who chooses not to re-enroll or who does not submit a recommitment form by the deadline will lose his/her spot.

Kindergarten Enrollment
To be eligible for kindergarten, a child must be 5 years old on or before September 1 of the year of kindergarten enrollment.

Waiting Lists
State law requires that all waiting lists be re-drawn annually. Parents/guardians of children whose names are on the waiting list will be notified in December of the date of the next lottery and invited to submit a new enrollment application to have their child included in the lottery. ANSER will publicize the lottery to the general public and invite other families to include their child (ren)’s names in the lottery.

It is recommended that families research the school and become familiar with ANSER’s education program before an offer of enrollment is made. Background information is available at www.ansercharterschool.org. Monthly tours of the school are also available. Please call the office (426-9840) for scheduled times.

Offers of Enrollment
In order to be fair to all families of students on the waiting list and in order to fill class rosters in a timely manner, offers of enrollment must be accepted within 48 hours. This time frame may be shortened to 24 hours during the period between August 15 and September 15.

Offers of enrollment may be made via telephone or in person. If the listed telephone number is not answered, an offer of enrollment will be sent by mail. Acceptance must be made within 48 hours of when the offer is made or of the date the offer was delivered, as verified by the U.S. Postal Service. If no response is received within 48 hours, the child’s name will be moved to the bottom of the waiting list.

If an offer of enrollment is declined, that child will go to the bottom of the applicable waiting list.

Additional Guidelines

1.   It is the responsibility of parents to notify the school of any siblings who they wish to enroll at the school.

2.   Recent additions to families (stepchildren, foster children) qualify as siblings under this policy. It is the responsibility of parents to notify the school of these additions.

  1. If a student ceases to be enrolled at ANSER, his/her siblings who are still awaiting enrollment will be placed at the bottom of the general grade level waiting list.

  1. If a student has accepted enrollment at ANSER and then registers and attends another school, the offer of enrollment at ANSER is automatically withdrawn.
